S.A.V.E.S. was started in 1973 in a classroom. When its future was in peril, my vision was to turn it into a community outreach program and make it an ongoing reality. A third of a century later, it has grown into a thriving, bustling, place of hope. Under the direction of its founder, Mrs. Sadie Cerda, and the sponsorship of Saint Augustine’s Catholic Church, we continue to help the needy of all faiths or none.
S.A.V.E.S. is open to clients on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays, from 9 AM till 11:45 AM. We need volunteers any day of the week since S.A.V.E.S. is open everyday to receive donations and prepare for our clients. On Saturdays and Sundays S.A.V.E.S. has an ongoing yard sale to raise money for our operations. S.A.V.E.S. receives donations from many sources, yet still needs to purchase food to provide our clients with a balanced diet.
As of December 2011 S.A.V.E.S. served 11,355 households, including 22,473 adults, and 33,828 children. We provided 75,846 bags of food containing 530,922 pounds. Our volunteer hours total 18,241.
S.A.V.E.S. conducts a food drive on the second Sunday of every month.
Volunteers collect food at all the masses to assist in our mission to feed the hungry. Food items are placed in collection barrels at the doors of the church.
Please help S.A.V.E.S. meet the needs of our community. As you celebrate this coming holiday season with your friends and family remember our neighbors in need and give as generously as possible. Every dollar, every can donated counts. Even a modest gift can make a big impact.
